On Tuesday, Ben Affleck revealed that he just completed treatment for alcohol addiction. He posted a candid statement on his Facebook page.
The actor-director said he wants to be the best father as much as he can. He wants to show his children there is no shame in seeking help. He also thanked Jennifer Garner for supporting him and taking care of their three kids.
In 2001, Affleck also entered rehab for alcohol abuse.
“I went to rehab for being 29 and partying too much and not having a lot of boundaries and to clear my head and try to get some idea of who I wanted to be,” Affleck said in an interview in 2012. “It was more a ‘let me get myself straight,’ before it became a rite of passage.”
“I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront,” he wrote on social media of late.
“I’m lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I’ve done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery.”
Affleck and Garner have been separated since announcing their divorce plans in 2015. However, there have been reports that they have called off their divorce plans recently.
The co-parents are dedicated to raising their three kids ― Violet, 11, Seraphina, 8, and Samuel, 5 ― jointly. And while there were rumors of a reconciliation, the pair are not back together. They are allegedly still going to move forward with their divorce even if it is currently on hold.
The 44 year-old star was last seen in public at the Oscars last month. He presented with Matt Damon and saw his younger brother, Casey Affleck, win Best Actor.
Affleck has just stepped back from directing The Batman after almost a year of working on the film. However, he will still star in the movie as the nominal crusader.
